Building Progress
Progress Report #2
The week is ending on a very strong note. As our Congregation can see the work has really begun. One challenge (placing the foundation to avoid an underground conduit) has been resolved by our resident engineer Les avoiding the possibility of delays or costs. We are in the phase of opening the areas where the foundations are being poured, this is the time when we can "dig up" surprises. So far this is the only real surprise of any consequence and it appears solved with a very elegant solution by Les. We do, of course, have to submit this as a change to the permit, but that should not be a problem.
Weather has also been good for us. We do tarp the area occasionally to keep it as dry as possible. Equipment is working without delay so far.
The work on the modulars will be complete by this Saturday with an electrician connecting temporary power. The wall is in separating the large middle classroom so we have setup for 4 classes in the single wide modular, all have been set up with tables, chairs, etc. Someone needs to turn on the heat, set it up or whatever Sunday morning in time to heat them up. Otherwise, I think that is complete. Many thanks to a large group of volunteers and a couple of paid guys who did all this set up over the last two weeks. It took about 40 man days of work to knock them down, help move, set back up and rebuild the deck and stairs. But, it was a great effort by a super group of volunteers. And, thanks to Juan and Marcello for their help. They are paid, but our overall cost of the modulars will be less than $6000. If all had been paid I think it would have cost several times that amount.
We know our Sunday School was inconvenienced last Sunday with no heat and one missing classroom, but that has all been resolved this week (a crew was there until 6:30pm last Saturday just to make them useable at all). Many thanks to the crews that worked so long to make that possible. Jean's classroom is not changed. Chris and Vicki each have a classroom in the middle, and Bethany's classroom is setup in the one previously used by Vicki. Hopefully all will be pleased when they arrive Sunday.
