  • Adult Class Sunday Mornings:
    This fall we will are using the video series ‘Truth Unlocked: Keys to Reaching Your Muslim Neighbors.'
  • Lifelight Bible Studies
    If you would like to participate in the new Lifelight Bible Study on Wednesday mornings or Sunday evenings, we will be studying the Books of First, Second and Third John. Classes will begin on Sunday, January 22nd, 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, January 25th, 10:00 am. Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the narthex. Cost for the materials is $10 and will be ordered on January 10th. Please make checks payable to Messiah Lutheran Church with Bible Study Materials in the notation.
  • Fat Tuesday Event - 2/21/2012
    The OWLS are organizing a "Fat Tuesday" Pot Luck Dinner for the entire congregation on February 21 at 6:30 p.m.  Look for lots of "healthy" food and fun for all, including children.  Kay Byers is the organizator this year so bring your appitite.

The Son of God, Christ Jesus, Makes Us a New Creation

The Lord alone "is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth" (Is. 40:28). He "sits above the circle of the earth" and "stretches out the heavens like a curtain" (Is. 40:22). Yet, His almighty power is demonstrated chiefly by His mercy and compassion. "He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength" (Is. 40:29). The only-begotten Son of the Father, the very Word by whom all things were made, becomes flesh and takes all the poverty and weakness of our sin and death upon Himself, bearing it in His Body to the Cross. As He dies for us there, He also raises us up, a new creation, in His Resurrection from the dead. Thus, by the preaching of this Word, He heals "many who were sick with various diseases," and He casts out "many demons" (Mark 1:34, 39). And His preaching continues through those whom He has sent, who are "entrusted with a stewardship" to "preach the Gospel" (1 Cor. 9:16-17). Thus we are set free by the Word of Christ, and we exercise our freedom in loving service to others.

"Jesus Heals a Man Who Is Paralyzed" is the lesson for Sunday School today. The miracle of healing the paralytic confirms that Jesus, the Son of Man, has authority on earth to forgive sins and it confirms what the Son of Man chiefly came to do: deliver us and all believers from sin, death, and the power of the devil.

Consider discussing, "In addition to healing the paralyzed man, what else does Jesus tell him? How has Jesus healed us from our sickness of sin?"
