Reach Committee
The Reach Committee Coordinates the efforts of the congregation to reach into the community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The main projects our committee has been working on include: Mission Project: In the fall of 2006, our Church committed to support a dedicated mission project. We selected the Siberian Lutheran Society (SELC). The Siberian Lutheran Mission Society (SLMS) encourages, enables and supports the important work of Lutherans and the Siberian Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELC) in Siberian regions of Russia. The growing Siberian Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELC) is a place where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached and the Holy Sacraments offered to sinners seeking forgiveness and healing of body and soul. While they may speak a different language, our Siberian brothers and sisters in Christ are baptized in the name of the same Lord and worship the same Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Over a three year period our Church has given $50,000 to be used toward the purchase of pastoral housing. Friends of Mercy Mission Project: In mid 2009 we started evaluating what will be Messiah's financial commitment for the next three years. The work of Friends of Mercy, a Recognized Service Organization of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, is all about how Lutherans are making a difference by bringing hope and mercy to the people who are suffering from the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the brunt of which is borne by AIDS widows and AIDS Orphans. With the context of the Gospel and God's presence in His word and the sacramental life, the people of Kenya are able to follow through with HIV testing, medicines, and helping others because of the forgiveness and mercy which they first enjoyed. Please keep Friends of Mercy in your prayers and as a recipient of your blessings are ways to support the work of the Meekers, Pastor Chuchu, the ELCK deaconesses, and so many people who need the basic staples of life that we expect to be available. Please donate so that we can keep the work of mercy in the context of Christ and His blessings. Messiah Website: Communication through the use of the Internet is our foundational communication site for our members, our community, and those individuals from afar who are interested in who we are and what we believe. We hope our photo galleries, Pastor Blog and recordings of his weekly sermon, Messiah Memos, and other features will provide you with valuable information about our Congregation. This new site was dedicated in 2008 and continues to be updated with information about our Church. New Member Assimilation: Our Church welcomes new members to join us in the worship. We ask visitors to sign our guest book upon their initial visit. Publicity: Our committee is responsible for advertising our special programs throughout the year. While our website is our foundational communication site, we occasionally supplement those efforts through local newspapers, flyers for vacation bible school and other creative ways to get our messages outside of our membership. |
